Gertrud Wittkowsky

Gertrud Wittkowsky was born in Regensburg and studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the Nuremberg-Augsburg Hochschule, where she earned degrees in zither (with Georg Glasl) as well as elementary music pedagogy. In 1990 she won the Kulturförderpreis of the city of Regensburg. Along with focusing on traditional zither music and arrangements from the Renaissance and Baroque, she is also involved in contemporary and experimental projects. Her collaborators include soprano Katja Stuber and countertenor Franz Vitzthum, and she also appears with many other artists in a great many chamber music settings.
As a soloist, she has performed live for Bavarian Radio and Radio Bremen. She has taken part in the production of the opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny with the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich. The State Theatre in Augsburg has also provided new opportunities for Gertrud Wittkowsky to present her extraordinary skills to a large public.
