BLASIUS AMON
SACRÆ CANTIONES (1590)
CANTVS MÜNCHEN
With this release from Cantvs München, the Tyrolean composer and Franciscan Father Blasius Amon emerges from the shadows of his more famous contemporaries, and proves his formidable mastery of vocal music with the book of motets, Sacrae cantiones. This is a rediscovery that ranks with the best Europe has to offer.

CANTVS München is a ensemble of vocal soloists devoted mainly to music from the German speaking world, and collaborate with professional singers, instrumentalists, and musicologists. They devoted the year 2022 to their Paminger project, funded by the German Music Foundation, resulting in a new recording and printed edition of Leonhard Paminger’s motet collection Piae Preces. In 2023 and 2024, the ensemble produced recordings of music by Blasius Amon and Ferdinand de Lassus. For 2025, the ensemble is working on a representative selection of works by Rudolph de Lassus, Thomas Stoltzer, and Heinrich Finck. Scheduled for 2026 is a CD recording of works by Gregor Aichinger.
Projects and recordings devoted to the “Jewish-Christian dialogues” are also especially important to the ensemble, and include Chazzinim (Jewish cantors) as participants, taking the group far beyond the Renaissance.
